JFS Goes 'On the Road' for Spring Fundraiser

Get ready to start your engines!

We invite you to join us on March 12, 2016, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at "On the Road with JFS: A Night at America on Wheels" for an evening of scrumptious desserts, beverages, and socializing. We will have access to the entire fabulous collection of vehicles, as well as the limited-run Art Deco Collection Special Exhibit. Car aficionado docents will be available to answer questions about these gorgeous machines.

JFS is a small non-profit agency with a big vision. Currently, we provide rides primarily to medical appointments and errands for approximately 30 Jewish older adults through our GO Program. These rides help these individuals reach their destination and those who use The GO Program are better off because of it.

But we know that three to four rides per month is not enough and that many persons are sitting in their homes with no way of getting out. The Lehigh Valley is an expansive geographical area and if an individual needs to travel between Easton and Allentown, it’s almost impossible to find a ride or afford transportation. The end result is that many older adults and persons with disabilities are sitting in their homes quite isolated and this isolation frequently leads to depression. Families are often trying to make ends meet themselves and they have busy lives so they are unable to provide the necessary rides for their loved ones. Rides are not just transportation. Rides are often the beginning of relationships.

Here is what your donation can help fund:

•  A ride for the older adult who wants to attend a class at the JCC
•  A ride to the dentist
•  A ride to the food pantry and a counseling session
•  A ride for a person who wants to attend a synagogue service
•  A ride for a person who wants to be a weekly volunteer at the synagogue
•  A ride to visit a friend who moved into a nursing home

In addition to funding transportation needs, JFS is a resource for those persons who are struggling in their lives due to medical issues, job loss, mental health challenges, and difficult circumstances. The price of food, housing and utilities is going up and persons who have some of the above challenges need additional support in these areas. By supporting this fundraising event, you are helping to provide funding that helps JFS reach more people in more impactful ways. JFS is your social service agency and your support of A Night at America on Wheels helps us get closer to our JFS vision “that no one in our community will suffer from hunger, isolation, abandonment, emotional or physical distress or lack of community support and caring.”
