Making mezuzot with Cedarbrook residents

On Jan. 31, our JFS volunteers became superheroes.

As part of the Super Sunday Community Mitzvah Day, a group of 20 volunteers, including Lafayette Hillel students, visited the residents of Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown.

The residents and volunteers made mezuzot together, which they later affixed to the doors of each of the Jewish residents’ rooms.

Rabbi Seth Phillips of Congregation Keneseth Israel talked about the proper way to hang a mezuzah and read a story with the residents and volunteers.

“It means so much to the residents, not only to have friendly visitors, but also to have a tangible representation of their spirituality,” said JFS Clinical Coordinator of Older Adult Services Carol Wilson. “Seeing these people gathered here, especially the young people, is so important. We are so proud of our volunteers.”
