JFS brings Passover to clients

Question:  How does Jewish Family Service ensure a traditional Passover meal for older adults who find cooking to be a hardship?

Answer:  Mazel Meals is doing a special Kosher for Passover delivery. The meals will include a Seder plate with all the ritual items needed, a printed haggadah and a traditional Seder meal along with a dairy lunch for the next day. JFS is currently providing two meals per month to 50 recipients, which reflects a 10% growth in the program.

Question:  So why is this year different than every other year?

Answer:  In other years, Temple Beth El Sisterhood collected food to support clients of Jewish Family Service. But this year, they are collecting donations to purchase gift cards for JFS clients instead. It’s safe! It’s germ-free! It’s a mitzvah! Thank you to TBE Sisterhood for helping our clients celebrate Passover.

Question:  What can JFS do in the time of Covid to support older adults living in long term-care residences?

Answer:  JFS will continue the tradition of delivering matzoh to over 70 individuals. Having the matzoh will enable them to participate in the holiday.

Question:  How do you have a Seder during a pandemic?

Answer:  Partner with Congregation Brith Sholom to participate in a virtual model Seder on Sunday, March 14. JFS will share the recording of the Seder with almost a dozen long-term care residences. Activity directors will share the Seder experience with residents.

Thank you to all of the donors and volunteers who are ensuring that older adults in our community are able to stay connected and celebrate Passover this year!
