After Disaster Strikes, JFS Helps Family Transition

Recent disasters like Hurricane Harvey and Maria remind us how any family can suddenly suffer a devastating event. When one such family decided to relocate to the Lehigh Valley to be near relatives, they needed to buy clothing, furnish a new apartment and find new jobs. Each of these transitions: new jobs, new school systems and beginning again is difficult. This family was also planning a Bar Mitzvah and now must find a whole new Jewish community.

This is where JFS assistance is able to make a profound difference. Our social worker met with the family to see how we could help.

Thanks to our generous donors, we are able to provide food and grocery cards on a monthly basis. Our social worker can provide counseling for the family to deal with the loss of their former home and community. And our case manager can arrange for the family to have furniture and household items as well as finding other community resources.
